I haven’t always been fond of Valentine’s Day. In fact, I used to be a bit of a hater. I was not a fan. I was of the mindset that it was nothing more than a commercial holiday.
The truth is I was wrong. It is what you make it. It can be just a commercial holiday, but that is a pretty cynical view. Now that I’ve been happily married for over 10 years, I see Valentine’s as a day to celebrate. It’s not about flowers or chocolates or nice dinners, although none of those are bad things, but rather it is about setting aside one day to be thankful for love.
This leads me to the next three attributes for success. Believe it or not, love is on the list.
Now, love takes many forms. Sometimes it is romantic, but often times it is not. For the purpose of this attribute, I define love as seeing people with “God’s eyes.” You see, the Bible teaches us that God loves each and every person. It also teaches us to do the same:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
– John 13:34-35
On that note, let’s look at this week’s 3 attributes for success.
19) Forgiving – Let go of poison
Not forgiving is like drinking rat poison and then waiting for the rat to die.
– Anne Lamott
20) Loving – God’s eyes
Some people care too much. I think it’s called love.
– Winnie the Pooh
21) Professional – Punctual, clean, good manners, respectful
If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.
– Milton Berle
